Licensing Requirements

In Maryland to engage in the active practice of real estate, one must be licensed through the Maryland Real Estate Commission. The Commission is a state regulatory body that is overseen by the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, a state government agency. There are currently three categories of licenses, a salesperson, an Associate Broker and a Broker of Record.

"Licensees" are subject to laws, regulations and rules created by the Maryland Legislature, the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation and the Maryland Real Estate Commission.

For information on licensing requirements for the various categories, please visit the Real Estate Commission's website at Http://www.dllr.state.md.us/license/real_est/rerequire.htm. There you will find requirements on becoming licensed in addition to licensees' requirements after licensing.

Also available from the Commission's site are the License Laws governing all Maryland licensees.
