General Information On The GRI Designation |
| |
Maryland real estate leaders have long realized the need for encouraging continuing education among the members of their profession. In 1968, the Maryland Association of REALTORS® embraced the REALTOR® Institute program. The REALTOR® Institute, developed in concert with standards established by the National Association of REALTOR®, is designed to provide comprehensive education in all phases of real estate for members building careers in the industry. Currently it remains the Nations #1 leading designation within the real estate industry.
The GRI(Graduate, REALTOR® Institute) designation is the Associations largest designation held nationwide by members. In recent surveys conduct by NAR, GRI designees earn an average of 1/3 MORE proving that education is a key to success.
Maryland's GRI program, developed and certified by NAR consists of a total of four (4) Series. Each Series consists of five (5) days comprised of 6 hours of instruction for each day for a total of 30 hours per Series. Successful completion of a passing grade of 70% for each of Series 100, 200 and 300 will earn you the GRI Designation. The GRI Designation is only available to members of the Association. For those pursuing their Brokers/Associate Brokers license, a Series 400 is available consisting of an additional 30 hours. All four GRI Series currently meet the educational requirements for the Brokers/Associate Brokers license. Each GRI Series has continuing education credits available for license renewal.
The opportunity is available for those members wishing to test out of GRI Series 100 with the GRI "Challenge Exam". Please note, however, NO EDUCATIONAL CREDIT TOWARD BROKERS/ASSOCIATE BROKERS LICENSE AND/OR CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS WILL BE GIVEN. The exam will be given only once. Scheduling of this exam is on an individual basis and interested members should contact MAR for further information. The cost of this "Challenge Exam" is $325.00.
GRI Series 100, 200 and 300 may be taken in any order. Series 400 is only available to GRI Designees. Members have five (5) years to complete Series 100, 200 and 300 once they have begun.
Currently the Maryland GRI 100 On-Line Series is NOT approved for continuing education credits or for the upgrading of a license to Broker or Associate Broker. Member will receive credit toward the national designation, (GRI), when taking the GRI 100 On-line Series.
