REALTOR® Institute (GRI) Overview
Since 1968, the Maryland Association of REALTORS® has offered the REALTOR® Institute of Maryland program where it has provided an educational opportunity for those who are interested in furthering their knowledge of real estate. The REALTOR® Institute, developed in concert with standards established by the National Association of REALTOR®, is designed to provide comprehensive education in all phases of real estate for members building careers in the industry.
The GRI designation is the #1 leading designation within the real estate industry. Recent survey data shows approximately 13% of membership in the Maryland Association of REALTORS has attained this designation.
Consisting of 3 series totalling 90 hours of specific education outlined by the National Association of Realtors®, curriculum topics include valuation, law, finance, real estate investment, taxation, ethics, construction and land use, to name a few. Subject matter in each series is not cumulative and the first three series can be completed in any desired order within 5 years of the start date to qualify.
Only REALTORS® may be awarded the GRI designation and they must maintain their REALTOR® membership to continue using the designation. The designation may not be used until a State Association awards a certificate of completion for the entire program. Non-REALTORS® are welcome to attend to receive continuing education credits and increase their knowledge base.
Each Series consists of five (5) days comprised of 6 hours of instruction for each day for a total of 30 hours per Series. MAR cosponsors the GRI Series with local boards/associations. Each Board/Association within the State of Maryland operates independently in determining dates, times and cost. To register, please contact the appropriate Local Board/Association.
