Awards Summary

All nominees are expected to attend the ceremony where the award winner will be announced. REALTOR® of the Year nominees are expected to attend the Recognition Installation Banquet (Sept. 12, 2017) for recognition purposes among peers and leadership. These ceremonies take place at the MAR Annual Conference and EXPO, September 11-13, 2017 in Ocean City, MD

  • On Tuesday, September 12, 2017 winners will be announced for the following awards: President's Award, Shining Star, CARE (Community Action and REALTOR® Excellence) Award, and REALTOR® of the Year (ROTY) and Community Service. 

The MAR Community Service Award—honors individual REALTOR® members who give unselfishly of their time to assist the communities in which they live. Individuals can submit an application directly to MAR and there is no limit to the number of entries submitted by local Board/Associations or firms for this award. All nominees submitted to local Board/Associations must be submitted to MAR.


The Community Action and REALTOR® Excellence (CARE) Award—is given to Local Board/Associations for their community service and charitable actions. The award is designed to raise the profile of REALTORS® and the REALTOR® organization by focusing on Boards/Associations that have demonstrated an extraordinary record through direct local Board/Association community service involvement. The activities complied by the local Board/Association may include endeavors by REALTORS® who are part of a group, team, office, or an individual of that local Board/Association.  

The Award will be divided between a large board/association and a small board/association with the large board/association being identified as 1001 members or more beginning June 1, 2016 through May 31, 2017. Each local Board/Association may submit one Special Project for consideration. The submission can include a 750 word narrative describing the Special Project and a video. The video may not be more than 4 minutes in length and must be submitted as a YouTube or Dropbox link. All other formats will be returned to the submitting Board or Association and not considered for review.

The recipients will receive the following cash contribution to the charity of their choice: Large Board/Association — $9,000; Small Board/Association - $9,000.


The REALTOR® of the Year (ROTY) Award—One ROTY application is required to be submitted by each local Board/Association to be entered in the MAR competition. The winner of the state award will travel to National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Annual Convention for consideration in the national award. This award is submitted directly to your local board/association for consideration.


Special note: Local Board/Associations are encouraged to continue awarding the Distinguished Sales Associate (DSA) and the Rookie REALTOR of the YEAR, if desired.

Recognition is a positive reward for a job well done. It is vital that we honor our members who have given outstanding service to the real estate industry and the Local Boards/Associations.
