2014 FINISHES STRONG IN DECEMBER

Home sales in December ended the year on a high note, increasing 20.1 percent over the same month in 2013, according to the Maryland Association of REALTORS® (MAR).  The strong surge in sales was likely a response at least in part to declines in average and median prices of 3.0 and 1.8 percent respectively, compared to December of last year.

The market definitely grew stronger in the second half of 2014,” said MAR President Janice Kirkner. She noted that pending units are up almost 11 percent, suggesting a strong sales market as the new year begins.

Maryland monthly housing statistics are compiled by data as reported by MRIS and the Coastal Association of REALTORS®. For the purposes of this report, “units” are defined as the closed sales and “pending units” are properties under contract. Months of inventory are based on the current active inventory and monthly sales for the corresponding month.

*MAR publishes the Maryland Housing Statistics monthly; it is available through the Association’s website, www.mdrealtor.org.
