HOME SALES JUMP IN FEBRUARY 2016

Home sales increased by more than 21 percent in February, according to the Maryland Association of REALTORS®, (MAR).  All but two Maryland counties posted double digit and, in one case, triple digit increases in sales as compared to the same time period in 2015. Caroline County posted a modest 3.7% gain. Worcester County recorded a 12.9 decrease in sales.  Average prices saw a modest increase of 2.5 percent and median prices rose by 1.5 percent as compared to February 2015.

“We’re looking forward to a robust market this spring” said MAR President Bonnie Casper, “It’s a solid, steady market with an increase in pending settlements. Prices are holding steady in most of the state, a market in balance is a good thing, it encourages both buyers and sellers.”

Maryland monthly housing statistics are compiled by data as reported by MRIS and the Coastal Association of REALTORS®. For the purposes of this report, “units” are defined as the closed sales and “pending units” are properties under contract. Months of inventory are based on the current active inventory and monthly sales for the corresponding month.
*MAR publishes the Maryland Housing Statistics monthly; it is available through the Association’s website, www.mdrealtor.org.
