10 April Real Estate Alliance Ensures an Equitable Homebuying Experience for All LGBTQ+ Consumers by Maryland REALTORS® DEI, Membership 0 0 Comment 1834 Real Estate Alliance ensures an equal housing market and equitable experience for all LGBTQ+ consumers by educating REALTORS® to engage in the most respectful way with the community. The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance is also a leading advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in real estate and housing policy, working on behalf of all LGBTQ+ people on their housing needs. The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance has a mission to advocate, elevate, and celebrate. The Alliance is dedicated to enhancing the professional lives of its members while providing consumers with the proper resources to assist in buying, selling, and enjoying their homes. For any minority group, the support of allies is critical. Allies are the people that do not fit into the LGBTQ+ identity but support the equal rights of those within the community. Allies can include individuals, companies, non-profits, and even associations like Maryland REALTORS®. Although LGBTQ+ people are protected in some states and municipalities, federal Fair Housing Laws do not include sexual orientation or gender identity as protected classes. This allows legal discrimination in 27 states which can cause barriers to homeownership, obtaining a loan, renting, and more. The LGBTQ homeownership rate is 49%, far below the homeownership rate of 64% for the general population. Fear of any type of discrimination in the future home buying process is a concern for 46% renters. Download the Maryland ACA Resource Guide and visit RealEstateAlliance.org to learn more.
